It is normal for nap transitions to be tricky and take time. They do take a while and are totally dependent on your baby and their own sleep needs.
Try to look for signs that they are ready to drop a nap, rather than following their age.
Sings to look out for:
Are they refusing one of their naps on a daily basis or frequently for a couple of weeks?
Are they falling asleep later in the afternoon after refusing a previous nap?
Are early morning wake ups occurring more frequently?
Have naps started to vary in time and length?
Is there lots of talking and fidgeting at nap time rather than sleeping?
Is your child finding it more difficult to settle than previously?
If you are noticing one or more of these signs then it is likely that your baby is ready to drop a nap. During this time bring other naps forward and use the 'earlier bedtime technique' to your advantage.
Babies can get overtired very quickly so be wary of this happening. Although your baby may have dropped a nap, they still need lots of sleep to help them grow and develop so manage their new sleep schedule in a way that works for them and you.
