If you want to (or have to) bedshare with your baby that is absolutely fine, there is no judgement here!

Have a look at the advice below to ensure you are bedsharing safely.

1. Make sure your baby won’t fall out of bed or get trapped between the mattress and the wall

2. Avoid letting pets or other children in the bed

3. Avoid bedsharing if you or your partner has had alcohol, smoked or taken drugs

4. Keep pillows, sheets, blankets away from your baby or any other items that could obstruct your baby’s breathing or cause them to overheat. A high proportion of infants who die as a result of SIDS are found with their head covered by loose bedding.

5. Avoid bedsharing if your have a baby who was born prematurely or has a low birth weight (2.5kg or less)

6. Follow all of the other safer sleep advice to reduce the risk of SIDS such as putting your baby on their back to sleep
